DREAAM is a community impact, nonprofit organization whose vision is to reach, teach, and empower boys and young men–ages 3 to 24–by creating life-changing programs and building academic and leadership skills.
DREAAM’s proactive violence prevention program model for Hope for the Future is to further address educational inequalities, child well-being, and mental health among children and parents within Champaign County. Hope for the Future is empowering and evidence-based, offering Pre-K cultural education, Saturday activities, gang prevention, and family wraparound services. Our goal is to increase health, healing, and academic achievement for more than 300 individuals.
Together, we can prevent violence in Champaign County.
DREAAM is creating an opportunity pipeline, a pipeline of hope to disrupt the “school to prison” pipeline, because of the following stats:
◻75% of all suspensions in Champaign District 4 schools (2012-2015) and 65.8% of all suspensions in Urbana District 116 schools (2011-2015) were Black students.
◻77.7% of all expulsions in Champaign District 4 (2012-2015) and 85.7% of all expulsions in Urbana District 116 (2011-2015) were Black students.
◻In 2011, 85% of all students who experienced disciplinary action in Champaign District 4 schools involving the police were Black.
◻Only 4.87% of incoming freshmen at UIUC are African American, a number that has steadily decreased over the last two years.
